Atlanta Weather:

Like everywhere else in the spring, the weather can be a little unstable. Highs are usually in the low 70s with lows in the low 50s and April can be rainy. As much of a concern as the weather is the pollen count. If you've never had allergies before, Atlanta in the spring may be your first encounter. If you do have allergies, bring a supply of decongestant or antihistamine - look for the non-drowsy kind! Before you pack,

We have a block of rooms reserved for the Grosz-Kealy Wedding. Their rooms are mostly suites, with full kitchens and as many bathrooms as there are bedrooms. Prices range from $109 for standard room to $289 for a 3-bedroom suite.

They would be great for families or for sharing! Ben and Vickie's families will mostly be staying here.

Wyndham

404-873-4800 - 125 10th Street.

We have a block of rooms reserved for the Grosz-Kealy Wedding. Prices range from $99 for double room, $109 for a king and $119 for a junior suite.

Wyndham's web site has a lot of good tourist info for Atlanta. Definitely worth checking out.

 
Days Inn 404-874-9200 - 683 Peachtree St.

Next door to the Georgian Terrace, not nearly as nice but still convenient. Rates are $80 to $100.

Highland Inn 404-874-5756 - 644 N. Highland Ave.

Great little hotel just blocks from the Virginia-Highlands section of Atlanta, a great neighborhood full of shopping, and great bars and restaurants. Very reasonable but you will probably need to have a car if you stay here. Rates range from $70 for a small single to $100 for a small suite.

Neighborhoods and Attractions

  • Midtown- All wedding activities are happening here. Midtown Atlanta is a resurgent neighborhood that is one of Atlanta's few true pedestrian neighborhoods. Amidst the solid business district has emerged a thriving nightclub scene and residential community. It is also the cultural center of Atlanta with the Woodruff Art's Center and High Museum of Art.
  • Buckhead- Most well know neighborhood in Atlanta. It's known for it's large bar and restaurant scene, great shopping, and fancy houses. North of Midtown. Best reached via cab.
  • Virginia/Highlands- Great neighborhood with a capital N. Full of great bars and restaurants as well as eclectic and fun shops and boutiques. Vickie and I lived Virginia Highlands for years. It's about 3 miles east of midtown. Also best reached by cab.
  • Downtown- Mostly a business district. It does include the Georgia Dome and Philips Arena. As well as some of Atlanta's top attractions like the CNN Center, Underground Atlanta, and The World of Coca-Cola.
  • Sweet Auburn- On the east side of downtown this neighborhood was historically the home of Atlanta's black middle and upper class especially during the early 20th Century. The main attaraction here is the The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, MLK's Birth Place, and the Ebenzer Baptist Church
  • Turner Field- Home of the Atlanta Braves who will be home playing the New York Mets April 5-7. No, you cannot go on the 6th.

Directions: #1 Rule of Atlanta geography- There are bunch of variations on the Peachtree theme.For the purpose of the wedding you need only worry about 2; Peachtree Street (red line on map)and West Peachtree Street (marked, parallel to 75/85.) These run north-south and are parallel to each other and all planned activities and hotels are on one or the other.
 

From Airport to Hotels
* The Georgian Terrace and Days Inn- Take MARTA northbound from airport. to North Ave Station. Follow signs for North Ave exit. Turn left on North Ave. Walk to Peachtree St and take a left. Walk 2 1/2 blocks and both hotels will be on the right side of street.

*Wyndham Garden- Take MARTA northbound from airport to Midtown station and take 10 Street Exit from station. Take right out of exit. First major street will be Peachtree. Cross Peachtree, go a 1/2 block and hotel is on right.

From Major Highways to Hotel
.Approaching Atlanta on 20 East and Westbound
*Get off 20 at 75/85N. Follow 75/85 Northbound directions

Approaching Atlanta on 75/85 Northbound
* The Georgian Terrace and Days Inn- Take Spring Street exit and take left at end of ramp for Spring. Go north on Spring and take 1st right after light at Ponce de Leon.
*Wyndham Garden- Take 10th/14th Street Exit. turn right on 10th Street. Go straight, hotel will be on right after crossing Peachtree St.

Approaching Atlanta on 75/85 Southbound
* The Georgian Terrace and Days Inn- Get off at North Ave Exit. Take left on North.Ave. Take a right at second light (West Peachtree St.) Take right at 2nd light (3rd Street.) Take right at 1st light (Peachtree St.) Hotels are on the left, Days Inn has self parking, Georgian Terrace has valet.
*Wyndham Garden- Get off at 10th/14th Street exit. Go straight until 10th Street. Take a left. Go straight, hotel will be on right after crossing Peachtree St.
